Beyond Bridal: Jewels for the Big Day

Beyond Bridal: Jewels for the Big Day

Once your wedding day arrives, your engagement ring (and band!) won’t be the only bling you’re rocking. You’ll want to accessorize your wedding whites with elegant jewels—but what? Deciding on just the right diamond accessories or colorful gems requires careful consideration of the style of your wedding.

Consider the mood of the wedding

Whether the ceremony is held during the day or at night, at the beach or in a chapel, or as a large venue or an intimate gathering has a big effect on the overall choices for attire.

Black Tie

This is the opportunity to wear the most glamorous and extravagant accessories, including tiaras, chandelier earrings, and statement necklaces. Go all out—it’s your day!

Formal / Black Tie Optional

Subtle yet sparkly diamond jewelry strikes the balance of being elegant without the fanfare of a black tie look. Pick a few coordinating pieces that don’t compete with one another for attention.

Odds are, your event has a more relaxed and fun vibe. Choose a few less dramatic jewelry pieces in more whimsical, colorful, or romantic styles.

More whimsical choices like floral motifs and organic forms like baroque pearls will echo the tone of an outdoor event.

Consider the dress

Consider simple jewelry that won’t compete with your dress, like a pearl necklace, pearl drops, and a tennis bracelet.

Smooth silk and clean lined column styles are the perfect canvas for more elaborate jewelry styles and colorful gems. You might love the look of detailed Art Deco or Art Nouveau styled pieces, or perhaps statement looks crowned with rubies, emeralds, or sapphires.

This neckline gives you the freedom to try many jewelry styles. A neck-hugging choker, layered strands of pearls or even a single dainty pendant look beautiful with this style. You could even consider wearing no necklace at all, opting instead for a pair of dramatic chandelier earrings.

Halter/V Neck

If you wear a necklace at all, it should fall about halfway between the base of the neck and the point of the V. Opt for a small choker or a thin chain with a single pendant on it. This style is perfectly suited for elaborate earrings with a romantic vibe.

High Neck

Avoid necklaces with this neckline and opt instead for drop or chandelier earrings, hair pieces, or bracelets.

Get Inspired

There’s more to choose from than a simple necklace or pair of earrings.

Hair pieces and crowns

A trending style for this year’s summer weddings, jeweled hair accessories in the likes of hair combs, headbands, clasps, and pins add a certain enchanting flair to a bridal hairstyle. These are often combined with more contemporary veil styles and even fresh flowers.

Easy to pin to necklines, shrugs, veils, and shoes, this traditional style adds a vintage touch to the bridal ensemble.

Back necklaces

This beautiful trend flatters backless dress styles. Most backlace styles are long “Y” style pendant necklaces on the back and short choker style necklaces on the front. If you’re feeling bold, you could even opt for an elaborate “shoulder necklace” or “capelet”  to wear over your strapless gown.

Stressing the price tag? Rent it

Many brides choose to purchase their wedding day jewelry to cherish as an heirloom or to wear for special occasions. But your big day glamour may not suit your everyday tasteor budget.

That doesn't mean you should resort to department store costume jewelry for your ceremony and keepsake photographs. Renting is often comparable in price and gives you the quality (and joy!) of the real thing.
